Comp ar and Contrast Lamb to the Slaughter And The Speckled roachAs Murder MysteriesWhen many populate think of a put to death mystery, they think of a dark andstormy night, a large proscription house, a gunshot heard by everyoneyet seen by no one, and the phrases youre probably wondering why Icalled you all here, The pantryman did it, and of course notforgetting elementary, my dear Watson. In the end, the intelligentand very law-abiding emissary solves the case, and justice, sometimesthrough the courts and sometimes poetic is served.Lamb to the Slaughter and The Speckled Band be both stories basedaround a suspicious death. Roald Dahl wrote Lamb to the Slaughter in1954. Roald Dahl is storied for writing childrens stories, likeGeorges Marvellous Medicine and throng and the Giant Peach. Roald Dalhalso writes stories for adults. They are usually close to ordinary peopledoing strange things. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote The Speckled Bandin 1892. His stories are about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes.Before readings this story I knew that Sherlock Holmes was a famousdetective working with fellow college Doctor Watson and Scotland Yard.Because of the times when they were written, the language is variantalso. Conan Doyle uses the Victorian style of language. His writing ismore complex. Sir Arthur Conan Doyles language is more descriptive.It takes him about half a page just to describe the setting of thestory. Conan Doyle sometimes uses phrases, which can now be quitetricky to understand such as knock you up. This is archaic language,which is not regularly used nowadays. Roald Dahl uses shortly but sharpsentences, and writes as if he is talking to a friend.The deuce stories are both classed as impinge on mysteries, however whencomparing these deuce stories the styles of writing and the way in whichthe stories are presented is completely different. An example of thiswould be the chronological order of each of the stories. What I meanby this is the co nventionalistic order of murder mysteries would be body, amotive, a weapon, a death, a suspect, an alibi and detectives. BothLamb to the Slaughter and The Speckled Band have all of these andso are no exception to these guidelines. However, The SpeckledBand follows this order and is a very traditional murder mystery.Lamb to the Slaughter on the other hand does not follow theconventional style of murder mysteries and follows its own order.
